"Super" Foods

We’ve all heard the old saying “You are what you eat.”  It’s really true; your diet does play a significant role in your overall health and well-being.

“Superfoods” are natural, unprocessed foods that may help you maintain your weight, fight disease, increase your energy level, and elevate your mood.

Below are some of the “Superfoods” you can expect to see in our dining locations and the health benefits they may contribute to.

Blueberries
Long known for being packed with antioxidants, blueberries are also packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin A which may help to boost your immune system and help to prevent infections.

Salmon
Salmon is known for being a great source of omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to have multiple potential health benefits. Diets high in omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help decrease chronic inflammation, assist in improving cognitive function and aid in decreasing the risk of various cardiovascular problems such as the risk for a stoke, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure.

Spinach
Popeye was certainly onto something!  Spinach packs a punch with numerous nutrients and health benefits. It’s high in Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and great source of folate. Spinach may help to protect against heart disease, regulate blood pressure, preserve memory, support eye health, and decrease chronic inflammation. With all that, how can you say no?

Walnuts
A wonderful source of Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins and minerals, walnuts may potentially lower the risk of high blood pressure and coronary artery disease, while at the same time increasing your HDL, your “Good Cholesterol”.  Walnuts are an excellent source of Vitamin E, Thiamine and Folate.

Yogurt
Packed with calcium, high quality protein and beneficial bacteria called probiotics, yogurt can help promote healthy bones, boost your immune system, and restore and maintain a healthy environment in your GI (Gastrointestinal) Tract, aiding in digestion.

Whole Grains
Rich in fiber, whole grains may reduce the risk of heart disease by decreasing cholesterol levels and blood pressure, while at the same time assisting in blood glucose control in patients with diabetes. Some studies suggest that people who consume more whole grains, which are high in fiber, high in complex carbohydrates and low in fat, tend to maintain a healthier body weight.

Green Tea
It may not technically be a food, but green tea has certainly earned a spot on the list of “Superfoods”. It’s calorie-free AND an excellent source of antioxidants called catechins, which have been shown in some lab studies to help fight cancer. These antioxidants may also help burn additional calories and encourage weight loss!
